The second half of the 2017 MotoGP season gets underway this weekend at Brno in the Czech Republic and at the half way stage the World Championship series has never been closer.
With nine races run and won, Marc Marquez and Honda lead with 129 points from Yamaha’s new boy Maverick Vinales only 6 points behind on 124. Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso is third in the standings on 123 and evergreen Valentino Rossi is fourth on 119 points for Yamaha.
So far in 2017, ten riders have all had a turn on the podium with five of them winning at least one of the nine rounds contested. Waiting in the wings are Dani Pedrosa for Honda and five-time World Champion Jorge Lorenzo, who is having a difficult maiden season with Ducati, despite making the podium once this year. The pundits are predicting Maverick Vinales as the rider to catch and overtake Marquez. After a strong start and back-to back wins at the start of the season, Vinales then lost momentum and struggled to stay with the leaders, but as the second half gets underway Vinales is keen to make up lost ground and control the series from the front. And his Yamaha team mate Valentino Rossi will be right behind him looking to find a way through.
Suzukis Alex Rins and Andrea Iannone are capable of more after a difficult start and MotoGP newcomers KTM are getting stronger every week with Pol Espargaro and Bradley Smith starting to put KTM points on the board.
You can watch MotoGP live on ONE this Sunday night from 9.30pm.
