Trip to Australian Motorcycle Museum on Demo Used Motorcycles

The weather turned out good the other weekend. We decided on the turn to visit the Australian Motorcycle Museum up the coast at Nabiac. Given the fact it’s a three-hour ride on the M1 and Pacific Highway A1, the three of us booked an overnight B&B and left straight after lunch on the Saturday. We like to give our nearly new demo bikes a run when we can. That way we can make any tweaks and be confident about the used motorcycles we sell.

The government is upgrading the Pacific Highway A1 north of Hexham into a divided four-laner all the way to Queensland. With the first 459 kilometres complete, this particular ride is on good two-lane roads either way. The surface is brilliant although we kept an eye out for warning signs as they are still fiddling here and there.

The Demo Bikes We Chose for the Used Motorcycles Test

  • We have been longing to get our hands on the 2014 Triumph Speedmaster with a mere 229 kilos on the clock. It’s a pearl of a good looker and a natural for the long straight road going for just $11,990 asking price.
  • We have also had our eyes on the 2014 KTM 1190 Adventure only done about twice that distance. At $21,990 asking price, it is one of the fanciest on the list. When we got back, we heard him say it was worth every penny.
  • The 2016 BMW S 1000 RR was a no brainer. It’s a beautiful bike dressed out in scarlet and ready for race or road still looking new after 1,612 kilos. The first person with $22,990 rings the bell.

The total distance one way is 290 kilometres. We stretched the benchmark three to four hours because we are just custodians of our used demo motorbikes until they find their new homes. We stopped for coffee at the halfway mark and rested them. Then we headed out for the rest of the ride.

The used motorbikes worked well in all departments, and so they should. They are not even run in properly, and we are choosy about who we allow to have demo rides. They are almost as good as our new motorcycles for sale, except someone else already sat on the saddle.

Our Visit to the Australian Motorcycle Museum

The 800 motorcycles on display in long sheds had our eyes out on stalks. The price is reasonable at $15 a head given what you get for it. There are twenty-three separate galleries with all the famous names, plus speciality displays of toys and models, and motorcycle memorabilia.

The motorcycle museum is interactive and we could get close enough to touch if we dared. They have swap meets from time to time and their website is a treasure chest of links to related sites. We enjoyed the museum shop although we did think it was a little pricey. All-in-all this is a trip we can recommend for any of the demo used motorcycles in our showroom.
