Launch Date for BMW’s New 1300cc GS Finally Announced! The rumours around a new R 1300 GS have been circling for well over a year now. It’s been spotted testing multiple times, yet, BMW has never acknowledged its arrival. That’s finally changed. The announcement took place recently when BMW rolled out its one millionth Boxer-powered GS model. Dr. Markus Schramm (head of BMW Motorrad) said “I am very pleased that the unique history of BMW Motorrad models with boxer engines will soon be supplemented by an exciting chapter with the new R 1300 GS.” The full reveal is scheduled for September 28, 2023. It will be presented at the grand inauguration of the new BMW Motorrad Welt (German for world) in Berlin.
Final specs are a secret, but the spy photos have been forensically examined along with BMW patents lodged in various markets. The new models will be BMW’s most advanced yet, with both Front and Rear Radars, allowing Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Collision Warning features. Also a larger TFT Instrument Cluster, improved rider aids (TC, Hill-Hold, Ride Modes), Electronic Suspension, and all-LED Lights (possibly with a Cornering Function). Australian patents list a weight of 237kg, 12 kilos lighter, given the new R1300 has a new chassis and reworked, ShiftCam boxer engine, which should make 107kW (145 bhp) at 7,750rpm, compared to 100kW (136 bhp) from the 1250. With a top speed from 219 km/h to 225 km/h.
Even though there is still no final pricing, Procycles BMW are accepting refundable deposits for the first GSs to arrive in Australia, due November 2023.
