The water radiators of the BMW R 1300 R and RS are perfectly positioned for airflow – right in the oncoming airstream. However, this also means they are unprotected from stone impacts, insects, and other debris hitting the delicate radiator fins. Besides the inevitable dirt accumulation, which already reduces cooling performance, unsightly bent fins and damage to the radiator core are common. In the case of a major stone strike, a leak is possible, making continued riding impossible due to compromised engine cooling. Cleaning is cumbersome and labour-intensive.
