Choosing the right bike at the start of your motorcycling journey matters more than most people realise. At Procycles, Sydney's authorised BMW, Kawasaki, and Yamaha dealership, we stock a carefully selected range of LAMS approved bikes to match your skill level, riding preferences and licence stage.
With showrooms in Hornsby and St Peters, our team works with novice riders every day - helping them find motorcycles that are safe, capable and genuinely enjoyable to ride.
Our range of LAMS approved motorcycles covers styles to suit a wide variety of learner riders - from agile naked street bikes and capable dual-sports to sport models and adventure-ready tourers. Every bike meets the Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme's requirements for engine capacity and power to weight ratio.
Whether you are heading into the city each day, exploring scenic routes on weekends, or simply building confidence close to home, there is an excellent choice of LAMS bikes here to suit your goals.
The Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS) is used across most Australian states and territories, including New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, to help new riders choose bikes suited to their experience level.
In NSW, both Learner (L) and Provisional (P) licence holders must ride an approved motorcycle that meets the following specific criteria:
The LAMS list is maintained and updated by Transport for NSW. Every bike Procycles stocks in its LAMS range is verified against these requirements. If you are unsure whether a specific model meets the scheme's rules, our team can confirm this before you commit to anything.
Each LAMS motorcycle in our range comes with features that support control and confidence across different skill levels:
These features help manage power output in a way that suits novice riders while still delivering responsive performance on the road. The result is a bike that grows with you as your skills develop.
Sydney offers learner riders a solid range of environments to develop their skills - from inner-city commutes to open coastal scenic routes north and south of the city. Our LAMS motorcycles handle both comfortably.
Several models in our range also accommodate pillion passengers, giving you that option once your licence conditions allow. Whether you ride daily or on weekends, you will find an approved motorcycle here that fits your riding preferences and routine.
Our Hornsby and St Peters showrooms carry a curated range of LAMS approved bikes from BMW, Kawasaki, and Yamaha. Our team walks you through each model's specific criteria - including engine capacity, power output, seat height and overall weight - so you make a confident, informed choice.
Now is the best time to visit us and find the right bike for your stage of riding. Every novice rider's journey is different, and we take the time to understand your skill level and goals before making any recommendation.
The Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme is a government-regulated system that restricts new riders to bikes with an engine capacity of 660cc or less and a power to weight ratio of no more than 150kW per tonne. In NSW, both L and P plate riders must ride LAMS-compliant bikes.
In NSW, novice riders holding a Learner or Provisional licence are required to ride approved motorcycles only. The full list is maintained by Transport for NSW and updated regularly.
Procycles stocks a range of approved motorcycles from BMW, Kawasaki, and Yamaha - including naked street bikes, dual-sport models, adventure tourers and sport bikes. All meet the engine capacity and power to weight ratio requirements of the scheme.
A low seat height helps riders place their feet flat on the ground, improving balance when stopping or moving at slow speeds. This is particularly useful for shorter learner riders or those new to motorcycling.
Some approved motorcycles are designed to carry pillion passengers. However, Learner licence holders in NSW are not permitted to carry passengers. Check the current Transport for NSW rules for your specific licence conditions.
Not at all. Many experienced riders choose LAMS motorcycles for commuting or day rides because of their manageable power output, light weight and fuel efficiency. With ABS, traction control and well-balanced design, these bikes remain an excellent choice well beyond the learning stage.
The right LAMS bike makes a genuine difference to how quickly learner riders build skills and how much they enjoy the process. Our range of approved motorcycles gives you access to quality engineering, modern safety features and proven design - all within the Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme.
Visit Procycles in Hornsby or St Peters to explore the full range and speak with our team about the model that fits your riding preferences, skill level and licence stage.
