Engine protection? It's typically associated with adventure bikes for occasional off-road use. But underbody protection also makes sense for other motorcycle concepts. Even handguards were originally reserved for enduro riders.

Our STREET engine protector, designed in Tool Design, is distinguished by the fact that we deliberately applied the same high product standards and design principles as for the ULTIMATE protector for the R 1300 GS and GS Adventure.

The functional design and constructive integration of our STREET engine protector protect the engine housing, oil pan and manifold. It fits so tightly around the engine unit that the frontal exposure is optimised and the ground and lean angle clearance remains nearly unchanged. The shape reduces the risk of bottoming out – for example, when riding over kerbs with a fully loaded bike. Drainage openings ensure collected water can drain off freely.

Angled deflector plates divert stone chips or foreign objects thrown up by the front wheel in such a way that the risk of damage to the manifold and engine is significantly reduced. Another benefit of this engine protector: it directs splashing water stirred up in large volumes – for example, when crossing ruts – downward, thereby significantly reducing thermal stress on the engine housing, manifolds and seals, especially when hot.

The complex component form and geometry are the result of optimising material thickness and weight while maintaining high structural rigidity and mechanical stability. The result is a resilient, weight- and shape-optimised engine protector that hugs the engine unit so closely and organically that the design principle of "form follows function" becomes visibly evident. The recessed mounting hardware leaves no vulnerable surfaces and underscores the edge design to best effect.

This premium engine protector is securely fastened using existing attachment points on the bike. External forces and torque are distributed to reduce peak loads and moments. Vibrations are effectively absorbed. As is typical with Wunderlich, we paid attention to ensuring unrestricted maintenance access – including a special opening for unobstructed oil drainage. The aluminium engine protector is corrosion-resistant and finished in black, bearing the Wunderlich brand logo.
