The DesertX comes as standard with a lateral chain guard produced from plastic. The aim here is to prevent branches or other foreign objects from unintentionally getting caught between the lower chain section and the sprocket when riding offroad. This reduces the risk of the rear wheel locking abruptly and offers protection from mechanical damage caused by a chain getting broken or jumping off.

So using a corresponding chain guard generally makes sense here. However,we believe that it should be overall more robust and also cover the underside of the chain. Our chain guard therefore performs another important function: If the lower part of the chain hits the ground - which is not unusual when riding over rocky terrain - our chain guard also protects the sprocket,which could otherwise get damaged when hitting a boulder or rock.

We have created a durable,highly robust version,which we produce from solid 4 mm thick aluminium and which also protects the chain from below. The curved edges also provide additional rigidity. Despite its stability,the chain guard has a highly dynamic and integrated appearance thanks to our adventure look design. With Wunderlich brand logo.

We use the original mounting points for easy fitting.
